The Shadow Project
This series of photographs shows the beauty of light and shadow in my eyes. I went to several places I was familiar with and took these photographs. The idea of choosing lighting and shadow as my theme came from my experience of quarantine at home during the pandemic. Since I was bored at home, I began to scout every corner of my apartment and tried to find some interesting things in this space. Various types of light and shadow inside my apartment caught my eye. Weather is the key factor that decides the appearance of light and shadow. I like the feeling that everything is unknown.
There was a day that I sat on the sofa in the living room and then saw the shadow of a sapling reflected on the screen window. I recorded this moment with my camera immediately. The reason for me to shoot this picture was that although I pull out this sapling three times, every spring, it thrived in silence. The little sapling showed me the tenacity and beauty of trivial things. This story inspired me the idea that photographing the charm of light and shadow created by nature and recording the beauty of light and shadow that may be ignored by me.
I am obsessed with photographing natural beauty, because these natural beauties are the best source of inspiration. I just need my camera on neck along with a pair of beauty-seeking eyes. I wandered in familiar places looking for any hidden beauty. The shooting process was interesting and expectant because I did not even know what I was going to capture.
In the process of creation, I gradually played with light and shadow. In my work, pictures of me interacting with shadows and lines of architecture made me feel like I was integrated with these abstract things. I want to use this kind of abstract and geometric beauty to convey an unknown feeling of self-exploration. I also took shadows of things that did not seem meaningful, but it is a pleasure to give them meaning as a photographer.
